System disk expansion
This document explains the method of "Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC) System Disk Expansion" of Baidu AI Cloud (including an instructional video). You can refer to the key steps in the video to use AI cloud products or solve problems independently. Click here to watch the video "Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC) System Disk Expansion".
Description:
If the interface elements or operation methods shown in the video guidance are updated, please rely on the AI Cloud console interface for the most accurate information. The video aims to demonstrate the functional operation process, and minor interface changes will not affect the overall functionality or presentation.
Overview
As your business expands, your disk capacity might no longer meet storage needs. You can increase the disk capacity to your desired target size while preserving the existing data on the disk.
Notes to expansion
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Impact | • Expansion does not require instance restart. To mitigate risks, please create a snapshot before expansion for data backup. |
| Before expansion | • Instance status must be Running or Normal. Expansion operations cannot proceed in case of exception or debt.• Currently, onlysingle-partition system disks are supported.• During expansion, you can simultaneously change the CDS type, e.g., upgrading a 40GB high-performance cloud disk to a 100GB general purpose SSD.•Since the system disk stores critical business data, there is a risk of data deletion if the capacity is reduced. Therefore, you can only increase the CDS capacity but cannot reduce it. |
| After expansion | • Expanding the system disk does not change the IP address or MAC address of your instance. |
Expansion limits and billing
The new expansion size must be greater than the current capacity but not exceed the maximum capacity limit for this type of disk. The expansion limits for system disks are shown in the table below.
| System disk type | Disk expansion limit (GB) |
|---|---|
| Enhanced SSD | 2048 |
| General-purpose SSD | 2048 |
| High-performance cloud disk | 2048 |
For additional costs related to expansion, please refer to CSD Pricing.
System disk expansion
- Sign in to the BCC Console.
- Select Instance in the left navigation bar to enter the Instance List page.
- Select the name of the instance requiring system disk expansion, navigate to the Instance Details page, and then click Instance Diskto access the Disk Details page.
- Select the disk, select Expansion and Resizing under More Operations, then click OK in the pop-up menu to enter the Expansion page.
-
Under Change Configuration, select the capacity you need to expand (must exceed current capacity)
For example, if the original capacity of a prepaid system disk is 40GB and needs to be expanded to 100GB, you only pay for the additional 60GB. After verifying configuration costs and selected configuration details, click Confirm Shift to proceed with payment.
- After Confirming Payment, reboot the instance for the expanded capacity to take effect.
Expansion via API
You can use the Disk Expansion and Type Change Interface to expand the capacity of the specified disk. For API details, please refer to [Disk-related Interface](BCC/API Reference/Disk Related Interfaces/Disk Expansion and Type Change.md).
