Billing Cases
Overview
This article explains how to calculate BOS fees for object storage and determine suitable charge plans through case studies. The unit prices used in these examples were sourced from the official Baidu AI Cloud website as of September 9, 2020. For the latest prices, please refer to the official Baidu AI Cloud website.
Case I: Standard storage + data access
Mr. Zhang stored 505 GB of standard storage class files in BOS, located in North China - Beijing. The files received an average of 1,000 requests per hour, and the daily Internet egress traffic was approximately 5 GB. Mr. Zhang can consider the following two payment plans:

Calculation:
- When BOS calculates traffic fees, it is divided into peak-hour traffic (8:00~24:00, RMB 0.49/GB) and off-peak traffic (00:00~08:00, RMB 0.25/GB). Here, it is calculated based on peak-hour traffic.
- The total monthly egress traffic is calculated as 5 GB * 30 = 150 GB. Data exceeding the storage package limit by 50 GB will be charged on a pay-as-you-go basis, at peak-hour traffic rates.
Case II: Archive storage + data access
Mr. Wang stored 1,200 GB (1 TB + 176 GB) of archive storage class files in BOS on January 1, with the storage location set to North China - Beijing and an average of 1,000 requests per hour. On June 20, Mr. Wang downloaded a 10 GB file locally, updated its content, and re-uploaded the file to BOS without altering its size. Mr. Wang can evaluate the following two billing options:

Calculation:
- Uploading a new file with the same name to BOS will cause the original file in BOS to be deleted and the new file to be saved. Early deletion of the original file will incur a minimum storage period fee. For the minimum storage periods of different storage types, please refer to Hierarchical Storage. For the calculation method of minimum storage period fees, please refer to Storage Fees. Here, Mr. Wang was 10 days (1/3 month) short of meeting the minimum storage period and needed to pay the minimum storage period fee separately.
- When BOS calculates traffic fees, it is divided into peak-hour traffic (8:00~24:00, RMB 0.49/GB) and off-peak traffic (00:00~08:00, RMB 0.25/GB). Here, it is calculated based on peak-hour traffic.
- The internet egress traffic for the download is estimated to be 10 GB. However, due to file header data, the actual traffic size may differ slightly from the file size.
Case III: Standard storage + cross-region replication
Ms. Li stored 100 GB of standard storage class files in Storage Space A (North China - Beijing) on October 1, with 3 GB of new files added daily. To ensure data storage security, Ms. Li set up Cross-region Replication to synchronize the 3 GB of daily new data and the 100 GB of historical data to Storage Space B (East China - Suzhou). The total average daily requests for Storage Spaces A and B are approximately 30,000. Ms. Li can choose the following bill type based on the situation:

Calculation
- The daily storage fee for a 1 GB file is RMB 0.119/month/30 days = RMB 0.003967/day;
- Since the data from the North China - Beijing region must synchronize to the East China - Suzhou region, the total fee will be doubled.
Case IV: Infrequent access storage + data access
Ms. Li stored 500 GB of infrequent access storage class files in Storage Space A (North China - Beijing). These files received an average of 100 access requests per day, with a daily access request data volume of 2 GB, including 1 GB of Internet egress traffic during off-peak hours. Based on this scenario, Ms. Li can choose an appropriate billing plan:

Case V: Standard storage + intranet access
Ms. Li stored 500 GB of standard storage class files in Storage Space A (North China - Beijing). The files received an average of 10,000 access requests per day, with a daily access request data volume of 50 GB, all of which occurred as intranet traffic within the North China - Beijing region. Ms. Li can opt for a billing plan that fits this situation:

Case VI: Cold storage + data access
Ms. Li stored 500 GB of cold storage class files in Storage Space A (North China - Beijing) and had a total of 10,000 access requests per month. The monthly access data volume was 10 GB, all occurring as intranet access traffic. Based on this situation, Ms. Li can select the following billing type:

Case VII: Standard storage + recycle bin enabled
Ms. Li stored 500 GB of standard storage class files in bucket A (North China - Beijing) and activated the recycle bin feature for the bucket. Out of the 500 GB, 100 GB was deleted and moved to the recycle bin. On average, there were 10,000 daily requests for bucket A, with a daily data access volume of 50 GB, all within the intranet. Based on this situation, Ms. Li can select the following billing type:

Case VIII: Standard storage + CDN Back-to-Origin egress traffic + internet access downlink traffic
Ms. Li stored 500 GB of standard storage class files in bucket A (North China - Beijing). The monthly back-to-origin traffic from the CDN service to BOS was 100 GB. On average, there were 10,000 daily requests for bucket A, with 100 GB of monthly egress traffic due to internet access requests, all occurring during peak hours. Based on this situation, Ms. Li can select the following billing type:

Summary
From the above cases, it can be seen that:
- When the resources you use reach a certain value, the cost of purchasing [resource packages (subscription)](BOS/Product pricing/Product price/Resource Package Charge Type/Resource Package Overview.md) is lower;
- Different storage types incur different storage fees; please choose the appropriate storage class based on your actual needs.Although the storage fee for archive storage is lower than that for standard storage, archive storage has a minimum storage duration limit. If the file is deleted before meeting this duration limit, a minimum storage period fee will be incurred. If reading or downloading archive storage class files, the file needs to be restored first, and the restoration will incur a data restoration fee. Therefore, archive storage is suitable for files with extremely low access frequency, such as genetic data, compliance media data and archived electronic data.
