Intelligent Business Analysis
BOS has launched the intelligent tiering function. After One-click activation, the system will automatically monitor the number of data accesses on a periodic basis. When there is no data access for a continuous period of time, the data will be transferred to an access tier with lower storage costs. If the data is accessed again, it will be transferred back to the high-frequency access tier to ensure data reading performance. It is recommended that you enable intelligent tiering management for your buckets. For more information, see Configure Intelligent Tiering.
Basic introduction
BOS offers four storage classes: standard storage, infrequent access storage, cold storage, and archive storage, providing users with cost-effective options. Products in the industry often include a "Lifecycle" feature, enabling automatic data migration to lower-cost storage tiers upon simple configuration. However, configuring the lifecycle can be challenging: set the days too short, and hot data might move to colder tiers prematurely, resulting in reduced business efficiency and extra restoration costs. Set the days too long, and infrequently used data could remain in higher-cost storage, leading to unnecessary expenses.
To address these challenges, Baidu AI Cloud Object Storage (BOS) introduces the "intelligent service analysis" feature. By deeply analyzing users' data usage, this feature intelligently predicts how often subsequent services will access the data, providing users with scientifically optimized lifecycle configuration strategies to reduce costs.
Prerequisites for use
BOS currently offers four storage classes. The capacity prices of standard storage, infrequent access storage, cold storage, and archive storage decrease in sequence. However, restoration fees are required when accessing data from infrequent access storage, cold storage, and archive storage. In addition, the performance of the four storage classes also varies. For details, see Hierarchical Storage.
BOS intelligent service analysis enables you to determine the optimal timeframe for transitioning data from standard storage to infrequent access storage, ensuring the lowest total costs (storage fees + restoration fees) while meeting business access requirements.
Operation types
Access the intelligent service analysis feature through the BOS console.
Note
Currently, BOS intelligent service analysis does not provide recommendations for transitioning data from standard or infrequent access storage to cold storage. This is because cold storage primarily serves as a backup solution with significantly lower performance compared to the other classes. Moving hot data to cold storage prematurely may negatively impact your business access experience.
