          Cloud Disk Service

          Performance Problems

What's the size of the individual maximum file whose storage is supported by the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS)?

CDS is a kind of block device and itself has no limitations on the file size. The size of an individual file whose storage is supported depends on the file system type used by the user on the CDS. For example, the upper limit of the size of an individual file in the FAT32 file system in Windows is 4GB, while that in the ext3 file system in Linux is 2TB. For more information, please refer to Reference Materials.

          No.

What types of disks does the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) support?

CDS is a kind of block storage device and can be mounted to the Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC) as a raw device. Currently, the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) includes five types of disks, namely, general SSD, high-IO HDD, high-throughput HDD, general HDD and last-generation cloud disk.

Which one of the local disk and the Cloud Disk Storage is better in the sequential read-write and random read-write performance?

The read-write speed of the local disk is related to various factors, such as disk medium and RAID. A variety of scenarios should be considered in comparison of the read-write speeds, such as network bandwidth and file size. So we cannot simply say which one is good and which one is bad.

Does the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) support the elastic scaling up?

Currently, the public cloud disk products support the online elastic scaling up. For the detailed operation of scaling up, please refer to Scaling up of CDS Disk.

What are the advantages of the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) and the local disk?

          • The back end of the Cloud Disk Storage utilizes the distributed storage, with multiple replicas and a high reliability; if the local disk fails (the numbers of both reads and writes of the hard disk are limited), the data will be lost.
          • The Cloud Disk Storage separates the storage and computing of resources to avoid the occupancy of too many resources by the file reading and writing.
          • The Cloud Disk Storage can be mounted to different virtual machines, and the local disk can only belong to one virtual machine.

Can the capacity of the new disk be greater than that of the original disk when a Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) is created from snapshots?

Yes, you can select in accordance with demands.

What's the maximum capacity supported by the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS)?

An individual Cloud Disk Storage supports a maximum of storage capacity of 32TB, and the mounting of 5 Cloud Disk Storage as data disks to the same Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC). The upper limit of the total capacity of cloud disks in each region is 160TB. To increase the quota, please submit a ticket for processing.

Does the local disk support scaling up?

The Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC) supports the online scaling up of the system disk and data disk of the type of Cloud Disk Storage (CDS), and doesn't support the scaling up of the local disk and the non-CDS type disk.

Does the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) support the transfer among accounts?

The cloud disk cannot transfer among the accounts. Currently, the transfer of the server among accounts is not supported temporarily. To transfer the data:

          • In case of a system disk, you can create a custom image based on the Baidu Cloud Compute (BCC) under the account. Then you can share the image to other accounts of Baidu AI Cloud, and create a server based on the image in another new account of Baidu AI Cloud. For specific operation steps, please refer to Use Image.
          • In case of a data disk, the data can be transferred directly by the public network.
