          Cloud Disk Service

          Overview

          Overview

          After you create the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS), the disk is in the offline state by default. Before using a disk, you should format the disk, including partition of the disk and creation of a file system.

          You can create the Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) by three methods. For the specific creation mode, please view Create Cloud Disk Storage (CDS). After creation, you can format disks in Linux system and Windows system.

          Note:

          • The partition formatting will clear the existing data in the disk. Please ensure the disk has been cleared before the disk is formatted; if you want to save the data in the data disk, please Create a Snapshot for the disk.
          • Currently, it is only allowed to partition the data disk, and not allowed to partition the system disk;
          • If you need to scale up the partitioned data disk, please view "Scale Up".

          Usage Scenarios

          Currently, the common disk partition forms include the main boot record partitioning (MBR) and the guid partition table (GPT). When the disk is mounted to the server and formatted initially, the existing data in the disk will be cleared if you want to switch the disk partition form. Meanwhile, if you need to scale up the disk in the use process, you should scale up the disk according to the existing partition form. Therefore, please reasonably select the partition mode for the disk.

          For the existing MBR and GPT partition modes, their main characteristics are:

          Partition form Supported maximum disk capacity Supported partition number Partition tool
          MBR 2TB 4 main partitions, or 3 main partitions and 1 extended partition Windows operation system: Disk management; Linux operation system: fdisk tool or parted tool
          GPT The maximum capacity of the single disk of current Cloud Disk Storage (CDS) is 32TB. Unlimited number of partitions Windows operation system: Disk management; Linux operation system: parted tool

          Note:

          • If your disk capacity is smaller than 2TB, you can select MBR or GPT modes for partition;
          • If your disk capacity is greater than 2TB, you can only adopt GPT mode for partition.

          You can select the partition mode according to your own actual requirements. For the detailed operation steps, please view Format Partition in Windows System or Format Partition in Linux System
