Snapshot chain

Updated at:2025-11-03

Overview

A snapshot chain is a collection of all snapshot data created by a single CDS cloud disk. Every CDS cloud disk has one snapshot chain, which contains all manual and automatic snapshots created for that disk. Each snapshot chain has a unique ID that corresponds to the disk ID.

Create Snapshot Chain

The Snapshot Chain cannot be generated independently.

The Snapshot Chain ID is created only when a disk is created, as it cannot be generated independently. Therefore, when you create a CDS Cloud Disk Server, the Snapshot Chain ID is automatically and simultaneously generated.

Delete Snapshot Chain

The deletion of a Snapshot Chain depends on factors such as the disk's billing type, disk status, account status, and disk deletion operations.

  • If you actively delete a CDS Cloud Disk Server and opt to release its associated snapshots simultaneously, the entire Snapshot Chain will be deleted as well. However, if you choose not to delete the associated snapshots, the Snapshot Chain will continue to exist independently.
  • After prepaid disk service expires, if Snapshot Chains still contain snapshot data with normal account status, these chains will be retained and not deleted along with disk deletion
  • If account arrears occur, all services related to disks, snapshot chains, and snapshots will be suspended. During service suspension, snapshot-related operations such as creating Manual Snapshots, creating Automatic Snapshots, associating Automatic Snapshot Policies, Cross-Region Replication (CRR), creating Custom Images, creating new CDS disks from Snapshots, and Snapshot Rollbacks will be prohibited. After snapshot service suspension, data in the Snapshot Chain will be retained for 7 days before deletion. The data in the Snapshot Chain will be deleted 7 days later. View Snapshot Chains

1. Sign in to the Baidu AI Cloud

Sign in to Baidu AI Cloud official website.

  • If you have not registered, you must first [register an account](UserGuide/Register an account.md#Register a Baidu Account);
  • If you have already registered, directly Sign in;

2. Log in to BCC Console

In the console, go to the left-hand menu and select "Product Services > Baidu Cloud Compute BCC" to access the BCC Instance list page.

3. View the snapshot chain information

Select "Snapshot" from the left-hand menu to view the snapshot page. Here, you can see the Snapshot Chain list associated with the relevant account and Region, including the number of Automatic Snapshots and Manual Snapshots within each Snapshot Chain. Additionally, you can sort Snapshot Chains by capacity to quickly clean up unnecessary snapshot data.

On the list page, you can also directly view the Automatic Snapshot Policy linked to the disk associated with a Snapshot Chain. If you wish to adjust the Automatic Snapshot Policy according to actual usage, you can make the changes directly from this page.

Description:

  • You can view hourly billing statements for Snapshot Chain Capacity and the current Storage Usage of the Snapshot Chain in Bill Details. Billing is based on the peak capacity of the Snapshot Chain measured hourly. Slight discrepancies may occur between billing statements and Snapshot Chain pages due to timing differences in capacity updates and hourly changes in Snapshot Chain Capacity.
  • During the trial period, if a disk was created before January 13, its corresponding Snapshot Chain ID and snapshot billing information will not yet be visible on the Snapshot Chain page. A backend order supplementation process is required in such cases. This order supplementation is currently underway, expected to be completed before the official launch on March 13. As the process progresses, Snapshot Chain IDs and pending capacities will gradually become visible to users on the console.
  • During the trial period, if a disk is created after January 13, a Snapshot Chain ID is generated immediately. When a snapshot is created for the disk, capacity updates occur right away. Users can check this information on the Snapshot-Snapshot Chain page or the Billing page of the console.
