What Is a Dedicated Cluster

Updated at:2025-11-03

1. What is a dedicated cluster

CDS Dedicated Cluster is Baidu AI Cloud's block storage service, sold in clusters. It features physical resource isolation and exclusive resources within the cluster, making it ideal for industries like finance, healthcare, government, and manufacturing that have stringent data security requirements.

2. Features of dedicated cluster

  • Cluster-based purchase: Dedicated cluster is sold on a cluster basis. You must create and purchase a cluster of specified capacity before use, and then you can create CDS system disks and data disks in the cluster;
  • Type attributes: Dedicated clusters have type attributes. Currently support SSD and HDD dedicated cluster types, each of them can create general-purpose SSD and general-purpose HDD cloud disk servers respectively;
  • Limited capacity attribute: The dedicated cluster has limited capacity. You need to monitor the cluster’s status and remaining available capacity in real time. When the remaining resources of the cluster cannot meet your service needs, expand the cluster in advance. Otherwise, upon expiration of the dedicated cluster, all resources including the dedicated cluster, data disks created by the dedicated cluster, system disks created by the dedicated cluster, and associated BCC will be automatically released after the resource retention period ends
  • Delivery attributes: Due to the large resource volume of dedicated clusters, purchase and expansion of the dedicated cluster have a delivery cycle. We commit to delivering resources within 21 working days after purchase/expansion. Please monitor the cluster status and initiate purchase/expansion in advance. After payment, the system automatically triggers resource supply process and reserves resources, so the dedicated cluster's billing cycle begins immediately upon order placement;
  • Inheritance compatibility: Cloud Disk Servers ( CDS) created from dedicated clusters maintain the same function and performance as non-dedicated forms, requiring no changes to your usage habits. You can still manage individual cloud disk servers in the dedicated cluster through CDS-related console functions or OpenAPIs. However, some functions of cloud disk servers created from dedicated clusters will remain unavailable. For specific limitations, refer to Section 4;

3. Billing

For billing details of dedicated clusters, please refer to Dedicated Cluster Billing Instructions.

4. Usage restrictions

Before using the CDS dedicated cluster, please review the following restrictions.

Category Function description
Disk function Data disks and system disks.` You can create CDS data disks and CDS system disks from a dedicated cluster
Dedicated cluster charge type Only prepay is supported, with a minimum purchase time of 6 months
Cluster capacity
  • Minimum supported capacity: 85 TB (87,040 GB)
  • Maximum supported capacity: 1,015 TB (1,039,360 GB)
  • Purchased step size: 10 TB
  • Expansion step size: 10 TB
  • Cluster type
  • SSD dedicated clusters: Support creating general-purpose SSD cloud disk servers
  • HDD dedicated clusters: Support creating general-purpose HDD cloud disk servers
  • Restricted function Cloud disk servers created from dedicated clusters will not support the following functions:
  • Change disk type: Maintain the cloud disk type corresponding to the dedicated cluster type
  • Disk renewal: Cloud disks created in dedicated clusters are no longer billed individually, so disk renewal is not supported. Instead, renew the entire dedicated cluster or enable its auto-renewal feature to maintain continuous billing.
  • 5. Using dedicated clusters

    • Step I: Create a dedicated cluster.

    You must first create a dedicated cluster with a specified capacity and type. After creation, resources will be delivered within 21 business days. Please monitor the cluster status regularly.

    • Step II: Monitor the cluster.

    Once a dedicated cluster is successfully created, you can view its status, capacity, and details of created cloud disk servers.

    • Step III: Create and use a cloud disk server in the dedicated block storage cluster.

    After resource delivery, you can create cloud disk servers within the dedicated cluster. Once created, these servers can be managed via the console, API, or SDK.

    • Step IV: Expand or renew dedicated cluster

    Over time, as your business expands, you may need to promptly scale up the dedicated cluster or renew the existing one to meet growing needs.

    Description:

    • Expanded resources will be delivered within 21 business days of initiating the expansion. Please monitor the cluster status timely;
    • Before the cluster expires, the system will send multiple expiration reminders: Please renew the cluster promptly. Alternatively, recommend you enable Auto-renewal to prevent automatic release after the resource retention period expires. For expiration details, refer to Dedicated Cluster Billing Instructions;
