What is CSN? What is the function?

Cloud Smart Network (CSN) provides high-performance and low-latency network connections between VPCs across different regions, between VPCs and on-premises data centers, as well as between central and edge clouds. It supports capabilities such as multi-point connections throughout the entire network, automatic route learning and distribution, and optimal link selection, enabling users to build global private cloud networks with enterprise-grade scale and communication features.

The network types currently supported by CSN include virtual private cloud (VPC), dedicated channels, and Baidu Edge Computing (BEC). These three network types can be seamlessly connected within a single CSN instance, simplifying configuration and enhancing network topology maintainability.

What do affiliation and learning relationship mean? What is the function?

  • Affiliation refers to linking a specified network instance with a designated route table. After the link is set, the network instance will forward traffic by referencing the assigned route table.
  • Learning relationship: Create a learning relationship between a specific network instance and a route table. Once established, the route table will automatically acquire the routes from the related network instance. When routes are published, the network instance will direct them to the specified route table.

Do the affiliation and learning relationship have to be created?

To establish a learning relationship, it must first be created for any network instance type. Once created, CSN can learn the routes published by the instance, enabling connection with other network instances.

For the affiliation:

  • For VPC and BEC VPC network instances, traffic is forwarded according to the default route table if no affiliation is established. Using only the default route table for CSN will not pose any impact.
  • For dedicated channel instances, affiliation must be created for the CSN to share routes learned from other network instances with the dedicated channel, facilitating the connection of the IDC with other network instances.

It is recommended that each network instance has at least one affiliation and one learning relationship to ensure optimal product functionality.

Does the dedicated channel joining CSN support the active-standby mode? ECMP supported or not?

Currently, CSN does not support the active-standby mode for dedicated channel network instances but supports ECMP mode. If multiple dedicated channels in the same region publish the same route, they will form ECMP, distributing traffic evenly across the channels.

What is the routing rule when CSN learns the routes published by the dedicated channel?

CSN adheres to native BGP routing rules to select the most efficient route for learning. Please note that only the optimal route will be learned. If the optimal route is withdrawn, CSN will select the next best route for learning and re-route accordingly.

Can the route-learning granularity of a VPC network instance be changed?

The route-learning granularity for a VPC network instance can only be set at the time of instance loading. Once determined, changes cannot be made independently. If modifications are required, users can submit a ticket. After evaluation, modifications could be carried out upon approval.

After network instances in different regions are loaded into CSN, they can be pinged, but the service cannot be accessed. Why?

CSN offers a cross-region bandwidth of 10 Kbps strictly for connectivity testing, without supporting regular service access. Additional bandwidth for cross-region connections must be allocated from a bandwidth package.

Is the operator of the cross-border service Baidu AI Cloud?

No, the operator of the cross-border service is China Unicom. Services purchased by users via the cloud marketplace are provided by China Unicom.

What information needs to be provided to apply for cross-border service? How to provide it?

The real-identity information that needs to be provided by the user includes:

  1. Business license copy (stamped with an official seal).
  2. Copy of the handler’s ID card (stamped with an official seal).
  3. Introduction letter (stamped with an official seal).
  4. China Unicom's Commitment Letter on Dedicated Line Business Information Security (with official seal).

What is the application and approval time limit for cross-border service?

Relevant application materials can be submitted online at any time, and the general approval time is 1-2 working days.

Why is a compliance application required when applying for China Unicom's cross-border service?

According to the relevant national and local laws and administrative regulations such as Decree No. 42 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Letter [2017] No. 32 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Unicom centrally establishes user files for users in respect of relevant cross-border services. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: When accepting services for users, they shall be required to provide real identity information and such information shall be verified. China Unicom will truthfully register the certificate type and the name (title), number and address information recorded on the certificate. If the user refuses to present a valid certificate and provide the identity information recorded on the certificate, and uses another person's certificate or a forged or altered certificate, China Unicom shall not accept the service for them.
