Switch-over Between Master and Slave Instances
Last Updated:2021-11-11
Overview
The ApsaraDB for RDS instance supports the setting of Dual-Computer High-Availability Version Instances for manual switch-over between the master and slave instances. After the switch-over, the original slave instance becomes a master instance.
- Automatic switch-over: The dual-computer high-availability version instance is automatically switched by default. If you fail to access your instance due to a failure, the fault self-repair module can perform the switch-over between the master and slave instances automatically.
- Manual switch-over: You can conduct the switch-over manually between the master and slave instances on the console wherever necessary.
Prerequisites
This feature only supports the Dual-Computer High-Availability Version.
Descriptions:
- Stand-alone basic version: Not supported temporarily. Because the stand-alone basic version has only one master node and no slave node, this feature does not support this version.
- Dual-computer high-availability version: supports Baidu AI Cloud database RDS for MySQL, but does not support Baidu AI Cloud database RDS for SQL Server and RDS for PostgreSQL temporarily.
- Raft Financial Version: not supported temporarily.
Considerations
- Select to perform the switch-over in the Low Peak Period of the Business. The switch-over between the master and slave instances may result in the interruption and temporary writing stop of your business.
- The persistent connection of the master node should be off. Otherwise, the persistent connection after the switch-over can be available for reading but not for writing.
- The master node does not have a large number of transactions to write, resulting in the impossibility of releasing the long-term occupation lock.
- If a read-only instance is mounted under the instance, the data of the read-only instance is delayed for several minutes due to operations such as synchronizing incremental data after the switch-over between the master and slave instances.
Example of Manual Switch-over Between Master and Slave Instances
- Log in to RDS Management Console .
- In the upper left corner of the console page, select the region where the instance resides to enter the "Baidu AI Cloud Database RDS List" page.
- Find the target instance, and click Instance Name to enter the Instance Details page.
-
Under the "Node Information" module, click the Switch-over between Master and Slave Instances to conduct operations.
