Upgrade Background

From March 31, 2021, Baidu AI Cloud data transmission service (DTS) products are upgraded to provide you with data transmission service products with more specifications and lower price, so that you can adjust the product at any time according to your business requirements. The influence of this upgrade on you depends on whether you need to adjust the link specifications of the data transmission task. It is recommended that you select the appropriate link specifications according to the actual business conditions.

Upgrade Overview

Data transmission task (data synchronization and migration):

• Before the upgrade: The link specification of the data transmission task is simplex (only large specifications are supported) and the billing is diversified. The price is 3.00 CNY/hour for the same region and 4.00 CNY/hour for multiple regions;
• After the upgrade: Multiple link specifications (small, medium, large, and xlarge), multiple prices (1.00 CNY/hour, 1.80 CNY/hour, 3.00 CNY/hour, and 5.00 CNY/hour) are available and the billing is simple. The price remains the same in the same region and multiple regions.

Description:

Data migration and synchronization: This time, the same billing standards are adopted without difference between the regions.

Upgrade Details

1. Transmission rate

Transmission rate: Refers to the rate of transmitting the data to the destination by the DTS task per second, which is in MB/s.

The data transmission rate (migration and synchronization) for the data transmission link specifications is as follows:

• Full migration and structural migration: The task transmission rate is not limited.
• Incremental migration: The transmission rate of the task is subject to limitation. For the upper limit of the transmission rate for different specifications, refer to Link Specifications.

The details about the link specifications supported by data transmission (migration and synchronization) are as follows:

3. How to Choose the Appropriate Link Specification

Method:

• You can view the transmission rate of the task in the monitoring information of the task details.
• According to the average and maximum values of the transmission rate of the task, compare the actual transmission rate with the upper limit of the transmission rate of the link specifications, and select a link specification suitable for your business.
• If you are not sure whether you need to adjust the current link specifications, submit a ticket to contact us.

(2) Check the path: Data transmission task list-task details-Monitoring information-Transmission rate.

Steps:

1. Log in to Baidu AI Cloud and enter the console of the data transmission service (DTS).

2. Select a historical task and click the task name to enter the task details.

3. Select [Monitoring information] in the sidebar to view the transmission rate (the volume of data transmitted per second) curve graph of the task during the running.

4. According to the average value and maximum value of the data transmission rate, select the appropriate specification.

For example:

The transmission rate of the task shown in the figure above is about 4 MB/s, which is between the medium (3 MB/s) and large (10 MB/s) values.

• If desired to increase the transmission rate, you can choose the large specification;
• If you want to reduce costs and accept that the transmission time becomes longer and the upper limit of the transmission rate is 3 MB/s, you can choose the medium specification.

Upgrade Impact

The actual impact of this upgrade depends on whether you need to adjust the link specifications for data transmission tasks. Details are as follows:

No need to adjust the link specifications

(1) Task information: The link specification name changes from "Large specification" to "Large".

(2) Actual fee:

• Cross-region data transmission task (migration and synchronization): The fee is reduced and adjusted from 4.00 CNY/hour to 3.00 CNY/hour. The system will change automatically without the need to do any operation.
• The intra-region data transmission tasks (migration and synchronization) and cloud migration tasks (self-built data storage-Baidu AI Cloud Database): The fee rate remains the same, which is 3.00 CNY/hour.

(3) Transmission rate:

• From March 31, 2021 to April 30, 2021: The upper limit of the transmission rate of the data transmission task is not affected. If you need to adjust the link specifications, refer to the Point 2.
• After May 1, 2021: The upper limit of the transmission rate of the data transmission task will not exceed 10 MB/s.

No need to adjust the link specifications

(1) Actual fee and transmission rate: Depend on the specifications of your new task. For details, refer to the table.

(2) Change method: Submit a ticket to explain the new link specifications and adjust the time window.

(3) Description of the change:

• The operation and maintenance team for the data transmission service (DTS) will change the link specification within the time provided by you. You can restart the task during the change.
